Choose how to play

Pick your stake. It buys the funds you start sector 1 with — nothing else changes, so a bigger stake is a head start, not an easier game. Difficulty is chosen in-game and decides both how hard the campaign gets and how much the two paying sectors are worth. The smallest stake pays the largest award.

How paying works. Pick a mode and its cost comes straight out of your wallet when the game starts — once, not per round. What you get for it is set by the mode: how many plays, and which features are switched on. You currently hold ⓓ 0.

Plays belong to the session you start. Leave the game with plays unused and they're gone, so pick the mode that matches how long you actually plan to play.

How to play

A sixteen-sector armoured campaign. Build and upgrade emplacements along the route and hold the line — **a single hostile reaching your base loses the sector outright.** There is no life pool.

You choose a **stake** when you launch, and a **difficulty** once you are in. Difficulty decides how fast enemy strength climbs across the campaign; every difficulty starts identically at sector 1 and diverges from there.

**Clearing sector 8 and clearing sector 16 each pay Doodles once.** The award scales with the difficulty you chose and with the stake you bought — the smallest stake pays the most.

Funds carry from sector to sector and only ever change by killing hostiles, building, and upgrading. Emplacements never carry, so every sector is built from scratch. Losing a sector keeps every dollar you earned, which makes replaying cleared sectors a legitimate way to raise funds.

**Best played with a mouse on a laptop or desktop.**

Cheat Protocol is the same campaign with unlimited money on a keyboard shortcut. It pays nothing and records no score.
